Saying goodbye

This is Freedom. He was a very sweet and fun boy that came into Legacy's care a couple of months ago. Unfortunately we lost Freedom today.

Remember the last post I did about heartworms? Well Freedom's story is exactly why all dogs should be on heartworm prevention. The people that originaly cared for him didn't do a very good job and let him get heartworms. Freedoms body had an immune response to the heartworm treatment. It caused what is known as Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. Basically his
body started destroying his red blood cells.

So please don't let Freedom's death be in vain. Get your dogs on heartworm prevention now!
Goodbye Sweet Freedom we loved you and know that you're having a wonderful time with all of the other Legacy Boxers that have passed on to the bridge. We'll miss you very much.

Meet Iggy

This sweet little boy came to the shelter with hardly any hair.  He is very skinny, and only 8 months old.  He's had such a hard life for such a young boy.

One of our wonderful volunteers, Judy, took him in after just losing her sweet boy, Smokey.  This is Smokey.

Iggy spoke to Judy's heart, though, and she decided she had to help this sad, scared little boy.

Iggy has demodectic mange, which can be treated with a little medication.  He is on his way to a new and better life now.

He will grow back a beautiful coat in no time, and will be ready to start looking for his forever home!

Pet Fair Pups

Legacy had another pet fair this weekend and once again I wasn't allowed to go. I'm sure it's because my mom would be heartbroken if I got adopted. Yep that must it!

This is Zinnia. Just one of the many pretty girls available for adoption. Someone should really give her a cookie for being such a good girl.

And this is Secret. Such a wistful look on her face, must be a cookie over there.

This is my bratty foster sister, Molly. Mom said she was on her best behavior. I don't believe it for a minute!

Look at Elliot and Keebler, such handsome boys. Elliot even found his forever home this weekend! He's a lucky boy.

Last but not least is Apache (swoon!). I told mom he needs to come stay with us! He has a great face and really needs a cookie.
That's all for now, all this posting has made me hungry. I deserve a cookie!!

Heartworms are Stupid

For those of you that don't live in an area that has to worry about heartworms I say ppbbsstt. Oh wait you guys have to deal with snow, lots of snow. Since my mom gives me heartworm preventive every month I don't really have to worry about heartworms and I don't really like the snow. So nevermind you just keep your lots of cold snow!

On a serious note, 70-75% of the boxers that Legacy takes in test positive for heartworms. Even I had heartworms when I came to Legacy, can you believe that? Heartworm treatment sucks, I mean really really sucks. It hurt...BAD, and the worst part? I had to be kept quiet and calm for 4 weeks. Mom says it's really expensive too a whole lot more expensive than taking a little pill every month.

So you go tell your parents that they better be giving you heartworm preventive every month! If they already are you should give them a treat, chicken jerky is good.

Maggie's mom here-if you haven't been giving your dog heartworm preventive then you'll need to get a heartworm test from your vet. It's a quick and easy blood test. Once you've done that then go see www.nuheart.com. They sell a great heartworm product that all 3 of my dogs have been on for almost 2 years now and No heartworms! Tell them that Maggie with Legacy Boxer Rescue sent you!

I Call Shotgun!

That's right Keebler -I call shotgun and you have to stay home barkin' on the porch! I can't BELIEVE it - I have a family of my very own. And OMG! Guess what? I get to travel all over the United States in a fabulous motor home, meeting new people and new dogs and having all kinds of fun.

Wow - can you tell I'm excited? I used to live in a back yard all alone and now, I'm going to be a world traveler! I'll get to go fishing on a boat and visit the desert and the mountains. I can hardly wait. Let the adventures begin!
My new Mom and Dad are super nice and they love me a lot already. I know this because they let me sleep in bed with them, feed me cookies all day, buy me new toys and gave me my very own couch with a giant window so that I can see where we're headed next.

This is my new dad, Harvey. He lets me sleep on his lap or sit there like a giant baby. He's nice like that. He likes the way I snuggle with my head on his neck or lap. I am a pretty good snuggler after all.

My new Mom gives me lots and lots of cookies. She talks to me all the time and tells me what a good girl I am and how pretty I am.

I told my foster mom that I promise to send post cards and let her know that I'm doing just fine.

She talked kind of funny when she left - like there were froggies in her throat or something. She gave me a hug and leaned down and whispered in my ear that she loves me and told me to have fun and be a good girl.

I will Aunt Kaffy! Thank you for finding my new mom and dad and tell the other folks at Legacy Boxer Rescue thank you for EVERYTHING.

I can't wait to see what's around the next corner...

Pet Fair Update!

There was a Pet Fair on Saturday and I got to ride with Daddy to deliver some crates that my mom needed. I wanted to go inside so bad, but Dad was in a hurry and had to stay in the car. I was NOT happy!

When mom came home I got to read (smell) the "pet fair news" from her clothes, and they had a good day indeed! Mom was really sleepy when she came in, so she sat on MY chaise lounger and fell asleep. I had lots of "reading" time because she was asleep.

MagZ and Bonnie both found their forever homes!! Yay for those two girls!

Here's some pics.

The "pet fair news" tells me this is my friend Susan with Hennessey and MagZ.

The handsome boxer getting love from a visitor is Connor. That could have been ME getting some lovin' if Dad had let me in there!

The handsome dog on the floor is Logan. Hennessey, Connor and Logan are looking for their forever homes still!

Maybe someday mom will let me go to a pet fair, but she keeps telling me that I am so cute and sweet that I'd probably get adopted if I were to visit. I don't want to be adopted, I love my mom and dad, but I do want to go in there!! They have fun in there, I just know it!

*sigh*

Some day they will realize that they should give me everything I want. I am the most awesomest boxer ever after all. :)
