Happy Howloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! We're all done getting fussed over by kids in costume, so I thought I'd share some pictures of LBR dogs in our awesome Howl-o-ween costumes!

We have to start, of course, with part of the pack of LBR's pack leader! This is our president Sharon's dog Ginger. She makes a very scary squirrel!

Next is Zoey, practicing her best bzzzzz.

I'm seeing double! No, wait, it's another squirrel, this one named Rebel.

Here's a very special alien! Until yesterday, her name was Precious and she was an LBR foster dog. But she found her furever home yesterday!!! Her new name is Madison (as in Madison Square Gardens, where all the best boxers show off their skills), and her new daddy is treating her right!

This beautiful princess is my sister Cinderella. She decided to dress as her namesake.

And we'll close with the handsomest Scotsman you'll ever see. That's Casey O'Casey tonight. :)

Hope you had a safe, fun Halloween!

Atom Ant's Update

Yesterday was rough
But I was tough
Today will be oh so much better

The tumor is gone
My life will go on
I'm happy to write you this letter

The Vet was real nice
And gave good advice
I should rest now and just take it easy

Soon we should know
What the lab report shows
Clean margins would certainly please me

In the mean time I wait
To find out my fate
I have been very fortunate so far

Things could have been worse
And a much sadder verse
Had it not been for the rescuers of LBR

You all were so kind
To keep me in mind
To you all I would like to say thank you

Especially you Maggie Mae
Your furfriends made my day
I don't know how I will ever repay you

Sloppy kisses,
Atom

PS. Do you think this bubble makes my butt look big?

I ain't skeered...

of no stinkin' water hose! Bring it on. I'm a boxer. I know how to box. The more water you spray, the happier I am.

Slurps and Wiggles,
Friday

Good luck!! -- UPDATE!

Good luck to my buddy Atom Ant, who's having surgery today to remove his yucky tumor. We're all hoping for an easy surgery and clean margins!!

Atom said to tell Maggie Mae and all of her furiends THANK YOU for the good wishes. He's not scared now, since he knows he has so much Power of the Paw behind him!
UPDATE: I just heard from Atom's foster mom, and she said that he made it through surgery fine and is slowly waking up. They won't know about clean margins until the doctors have done their thing, so stay tuned!

Say hello to...

TRUFFLES!

Truffles is an extremely sweet girl who would love a family of her own to spoil her. Affectionately called "Princess" in her foster home, she would prefer to be an only pet, though would probably do fine with a submissive companion. She has a high prey drive, so will need a home with no cats or small dogs.

Truffles is deaf but not dumb. She knows how to shake hands and is working on other commands, as well as house training. In true Princess form, she doesn't like to get her feet wet in the grass, so may need to be taken potty on a leash until she settles into a routine.

She is a typical wiggly Boxer girl who loves to be pet and give kisses. She would do well with kids who understand the challenges and rewards of a deaf dog, and a family who is willing to work with her on training and hand commands.

Truffles is a very active girl, so she wants a family that will walk and play with her a whole lot or an active fur-brother to play with.

You can find out more about Truffles -- and fill out an adoption application! -- online with Legacy Boxer Rescue!

Go Rangers!!

As you can tell, I'm pretty excited! If you hadn't heard, the awesome Texas Rangers won the American League championship last night against the Yankees. That means they're World Series bound!!! Everyone down here in Texas is pretty darned excited, including the dogs. Betcha didn't know there were so many canine Rangers fans, did you? Well, we love the Rangers because the Rangers love us! They host a "Dog Days at the Ballpark" event in the summer, and this year a whole bunch of my LBR buddies went to cheer on our favorite team!

This is Blitz. I like her tutu, but don't let it fool you! She can knock you down something serious if you insult her Rangers.

This handsome guy is my buddy Slate. We got to ride to the game together. He had a really awesome jersey, didn't he? (And everybody's got our tongues sticking waaaaay out because it was really hot!)

This is me with my girlfriend Noel. She has a tutu too, but hers is even prettier than Blitz's. She's always dressed so nice.

Boy, some guys get all the attention! This is Handsome Man, aka Mulligan, and his sister Maggie Mae. The Rangers bat girls decided they really liked Mulligan and wanted their picture taken with him. Whatevs.

I can't wait for next year's game! Especially since there will be an awesome 2010 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP flag flapping in the breeze, perfect for us to bark at.

We Hate Mange Society

I've decided that we LBR boxers are going to form the We Hate Mange Society. Because -- speaking from experience -- mange is awful! It makes you itchy and lose all your beautiful fur, and if it gets really bad, you can even end up like this:

This poor little girl is only 3-4 months old. I don't know how you can even get that bad in only 4 months! She was rescued by another group and is going to get lots better now. But it got me starting to think about all the LBR dogs that have had to go through this.

This is Hopper, pre-fur:

And Hopper looking gorgeous again!

Here's Miss Deidre, who came to us in very bad shape:

And her beautiful self once she got some hair like a proper boxer needs!

And like I said, I'm speaking from experience! Can you believe that this pathetic guy is actually me?? That's me at about 8 months old, just before my wonderful LBR foster home saved my life:
And this handsome devil is me now! It was taken last year, about a year and a half after I was rescued.
Mange is treatable and not that hard to handle if it's caught early! But if it goes on for long enough, poor dogs like us can get really really sick. A boxer is meant to have fur! Be sure to take care of your fur-buddies, and they'll give you licks and snuggles for years to come.

My buddy Atom Ant, a foster dog with LBR, could use some good vibes from everyone! Here's his story:

It's not a rumor
I have a tumor
For this I'm bummed times ten.

It's not so swell
It has mast cells
So it's back to the Vet once again.

From what I've learned
There is a concern
That the margins might not be clean

But I'm just a pup
And I'll keep my chin up
Dirty margins? Well, that would be mean.

To benefit my life
I'll be under the knife
Next Thursday, October twenty-eighth.

Would you please be so kind
As to keep me in mind
And by all means keep the faith?

I'm a busy boy
I'm full of joy
I still have so damn much to do

This won't get me down
I refuse to frown
After all..... I still have to write chapter two.

Love,
Atom.

Trick or Treat

It's almost that time of year. You know the time of year when your parents buy a whole bunch of candy and you don't get any. Instead they give it to all those little people who keep ringing the doorbell. It's all very annoying.

That's right, it's HALLOWEEN! Now my mom knows better than to try and dress me up. She tried that once and let's just say it did not go well.

Apparently the moms of some Legacy dogs haven't figured that out yet. Although I suspect we have some weird dogs that like getting dressed up. Can you imagine?!?

Case in point-LBR alum Spruce

He doesn't look all that upset to dressed up like a shark.

Ahh here's LBR alum Rebel...

Doing exactly what a girl named Rebel should do. Eat her angel wings.

This is foster Popcorn. He gets the prize for best homemade costume.

He's boxer pretending to be a dalmation or maybe it's a mud wrestler.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.

It's my birthday!! I had so much fun going to the dog park with my sister Cinderella and my buddy Oscar. Then Mom took me to Petsmart and let me pick out my own present. I got a really fun floppy bear with lots of squeakers in it. Finally, we stopped at Sonic and got me a cheeseburger!!! Love my birthday cheeseburger. Nom nom nom nom nom.

This is me and Cinderella riding in the car together. We love each other very much.

Friday, October 15, 2010

Woof! Sorry, but it's been a busy week. Wednesday was my mom's birthday, so my sister Cinderella and I were working hard to make sure it was a super special day! And there's another extra special, super awesome, amazingly cool person's birthday this weekend -- ME!!! So my personal typist (Mom) has been busy, and I'm sure it's because she's putting together a big blowout party for me.

But before my birthday rolls around on Sunday, there's an awesome LBR event on Saturday! My mom gets all excited when we're driving around and she sees a sign that says "garage sale." So now you can get excited over it too, AND all the money goes to help the dogs at LBR. That's what we call a win-win situation. So if you're anywhere near Plano, be sure to come by tomorrow. Find a treasure and help the dogs!

Dog of the Day!

Meet Sassafras!

Sassafras joined the LBR family on year ago today. Happy anniversary! She can be a bit Sassy, but that is why she has her name. Sassy really wants a home of her own. She has been waiting a long time. I think she would love to be an only dog but would also do ok with a larger submissive male. I see her ideal home as an older couple that is home a lot or she would also like a house with kids. She doesn't need a ton of exercise but she does love her walks. She LOVES kids and will tolerate just about anything with them.

Doesn't this beautiful girl deserve a forever home of her very own? Check her out today at http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=1268!
