Mums & Roses

This weekend LBR held one of its biggest fundraisers, Mums & Roses! This is a giiiiiant plant sale entirely staffed by LBR volunteers, with all of the proceeds going to help the doggies of LBR. It was really cold this weekend, but that didn't damp our spirits -- or our sales!

We always have beeYOUtiful Tyler roses and tons and tons of mums, but this year we added something new. Pumpkins! We had lots of different sizes and varieties. Momma said  it was almost impossible to pick out the ones she wanted to take home.

We also had a photographer for our pumpkin patch! They took pictures of the kiddies and pups who stopped by, using their super-cute backdrop here.

We always have lots of doggie visitors too. This is a fun event that our past adopters will often show up at, so we see lots of alums! This year, little Miss Napoli was our foster guest of honor.

And guess who else showed up? Baby Austin himself!! Momma ran right to him and help him for some serious snuggle time. It was almost as good as getting to go play with him myself!

LBR volunteers totally rocked the plant stand! In two days of sales, we earned a grand total of....

$18,550!!!! 

Wooooooow, that's so totally pawsome! Think how many dogs LBR can help with that much green paper! Woohoo!! Thanks to all the hard-working LBR volunteers who worked tirelessly, and thanks to everyone who came out and bought plants from us! See you in the spring for Roses for Rescue!

Snuggly Saturday

Momma got out of bed eeeeeeeeeearly this morning and went to lift things all day in the sun. It's a super-big fundraiser for LBR, and I'll tell you all about it tomorrow! But in the meantime, while our humans are working hard for LBR, we pups are taking some time to get in a little extra rest.

Tacos tacos tacos!

Today is Taco Day here in Blogville, and I was waiting ALL DAY to have my nummy taco! Momma had to go to work early today, so we couldn't do breakfast tacos like we planned. But she promised to pick some up on the way home. And she came through!

Mmm, these smell so good, Momma! Which one's mine?

We dove right in with gusto!

Cinderella finished hers first, so she came to help me clean my plate.

Walkies!

Twice a day, every single day, Cinderella and I take Momma out on a walk. It's very good for her health, so we don't let anything stand in our way. That's the kind of dedicated human-owners we are! It gives us a chance to talk about our day and chill together, plus Cinderella and I can catch up on the peemail. Win-win!

Naturally, Cinderella and I are famous in our neighborhood. We have lots and lots of kids in our neighborhood, and they like to play outside when we're going on our evening walk. As soon as they spot us walking up, they shout out, "Casey! Cinderella!" and come running. (I know they're mostly coming to see me, but it's nice of them to include Cinderella too.) It's very exciting, and I wiggle a whole bunch. But I make Momma hold on to my harness so she doesn't get TOO excited. Then we let the kiddos come close and they pet pet pet pet Cinderella and me! We're very good and hold still while they pet us and ask Momma a million and one questions, even though they asked the same questions yesterday.

I'm 5 (in a week and a half!!) and Cinderella's 11. No, we're not pit bulls. We're boxers! Yes, both of us, even though Cinderella has cropped ears and I have a longer nubbin.  Ewww, no, we're not dating!! She's my sister! Yes, we're very good dogs. Yes, you've seen us here before, we walk here a lot. And on and on. It's ruff dealing with the puparazzi, but it's just something you have to put up with when you're as famous as us. One little girl asked yesterday to take our pictures and our noseprints. She says it's for a science fair project, but I know she just wants a memento.
 

 There's one super-embarrassing part, though. Sometimes we see other dogs along our walk. Since we're incredibly friendly, we have to say hello. Cinderella is really outgoing, so she'll start calling out stuff like, "Hi, I'm Cinderella! I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new? Your human is very cute. You have it very well-trained."  Of course, she doesn't get far into the conversation before Momma starts telling her "hush!" Can you believe how rude she is?!?! I have to immediately reassure the other dog that our human is still learning her manners and doesn't mean to interrupt. Then Momma starts saying "hush!" some more and having us sit down and face away from the other dog. In the middle of a conversation!!! She's sooooooo rude!

Does anyone have some advice for how to teach Momma some manners? She's friendly enough with the humans, but she seems to have a real problem with basic canine interactions.

Go Yellow!

Today Blogville is going yellow in honor of the LiveStrong movement, which is dedicated to finding a cure for cancer. Cancer is something that hits a lot of dogs hard, and we live in hope that someday a cure will be found for humans and pets with cancer.

 This post is in honor of my aunt, Nina Marie. She found her furever home with my grandma and grandpa, but cancer took her from them far too soon. We love you, Aunt Nina!

Tales of a Gummi Bear

This isn't the usual gummy bear you might think of. This is sweet little Miss Gummi Bear, a new LBR foster dog.

LBR heard about a dog who showed up in a shelter badly injured. We think she might have fallen out of a car. But she bad big gaping wounds in her legs. I was going to show them here, but I decided they're really NOT for general consumption. Really nasty! So here are her legs after she got her pretty pink bandages on instead!

 

 
  Our V-E-T was really worried at first and didn't think he'd be able to save both her legs. She stayed at the hospital for ages and ages, and everyone there fell totally in love with her. They almost didn't let her come back to us!

But they let her go, and her foster mom brought her home where she will be spoiled and loved and cuddled until she's all healed up and ready for a furever home. She's walking really well now, though she doesn't put much weight on one leg most of the time.

I think Gummi's pretty happy she found LBR. What do you think?

We were out in the lead, but now Boss from Villalobos is way out in front! They have a huge fanbase from their show, but we know LBR fans are totally PAWSOME and can make up for it! Please VOTE and share the news with everyone you can!
