Top o' the morning to all of you in Blogville! The boxers of LBR would like to wish everyone a very happy St. Patrick's Day! Mom told me she plans to start drinking her green beer very early tomorrow so I needed to get my post in now. Sheesh!

Of course, I'll start everyone off. You know, not everyone can make dorky shamrock ears look dignified.


My sissy Cinderella has decided she loooves to get dressed up. Or maybe it's the treats we get for smiling at the camera.


Our pretty little houseguest, LBR foster Marshmallow, got right into the spirit!


LBR alum Sophie looks like a very dainty Irish lady.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Legacy Boxer Rescue!!



PeeS: I'm going to enter this last picture in Bunk's St. Patrick's Day Contest! Like I said at the beginning of the post, St. Patrick's Day is such a pawsome holiday for me because, well, who else can make shamrock ears look that good?! Cinderella and I both look great in green, and we love beer! Isn't that all that's required to become Irish for the day?

Definitely a Keeper!

Thanks to everyone for all the nice responses to my post about my sissy Cinderella. She's getting a big head with all the things people were saying about her! But that's okay, I think she deserves it. :)

Today I'd like to talk about another sweet little silver belle. Her name is Sofi.


Isn't she just bee-YOU-tiful?? I love those silver-faced gals. They've seen so much of life, and they're so sweet and loving. Sofi is what we at LBR call a Keeper. That doesn't just mean that they're incredibly pawsome, because all LBR dogs are! No, a Keeper is an LBR dog that can't be adopted out. Usually it's because they have a serious medical condition, but sometimes it's because of a behavioral problem that means we can't adopt them out to another home.

Sometimes we know when we bring a dog into LBR that it will be a Keeper, but sometimes we don't know until they have some tests done and we realize that they're very sick. What I think is so amazing about LBR is that they keep all these dogs as long as they can and give them all the same care they give to an adoptable dog. Some places would just euthanize these dogs as soon as they realize they can't be helped, but LBR thinks that they deserve to live as long, full, and happy of lives as possible. Sofi sure appreciates that!


Sofi was one we weren't sure about when we first pulled her. She was a stray who turned up at a local shelter. Since she's an older gal, about 10 - 12 years, we knew that she wasn't likely to be adopted even if she was completely healthy. But she was tugging at a lot of heartstrings, and we thought she deserved to live her golden years in comfort. She had a yucky mass on her side that she had to get removed at the vet. When he tested it, he told us it was a "malignant adencarcinoma." I don't know a lot of medical terms, but what that means is it's the yucky c-word all boxers dread -- cancer. :( She may not have a lot of time left, but Sofi is loved and welcome in her foster home until it's time for her to go on to the Rainbow Bridge.

Grrrl Power!

So apparently today is International Women's Day. Hmm, when is International Handsomest Guy Alive Day, I ask you? I demand my own holiday! But fine, today's all about women and grrrl power. So in honor of the day, I decided to tell you about a very important grrrl in my life -- my sissy Cinderella!


This is how LBR first met Cinderella. She was a stray at a shelter, and she was in rotten shape. She was pregnant and had her babies in the shelter, and from the look of her they were definitely NOT the first litter she'd had. She had a really bad case of heartworms, so bad they caused a heart murmur, and then she had a bad case of fleas and allergies. She was kind of bald and lumpy. But she still had her pretty smile!


So Cinderella found a fairy godmother who saw through her sad tale and knew she could be a beautiful princess someday! That's how she got her beeee-YOU-tiful name. :)


Momma wasn't her fairy godmother, but when that lady ended up not being able to keep fostering, Cinderella came to live with us instead! She was Momma's very first foster dog, and she fit very well into our home.


Well, Cinderella got all healed up and beautiful. She got spayed to make sure she didn't have to have any more puppies, she got a chance to regrow her fur, and she got all those yucky wormies out of her heart. It was time for her to find a furever home! She found a wonderful home with kids who thought she was the most beautiful princess ever, and Momma was very happy that she'd found such a great happily ever after for her.


...But then she came back!


I know, who could ever not want such a pawsome grrrl? It turns out she had a wicked stepfather who didn't love her and was mean to her. So she got returned to LBR about a year later. Momma was so sad and promised that she would find her the best and most perfect home that ever existed where she would never, ever, ever, EVER be unwanted again.


And she DID! Except it turned out... well... nobody could love Cinderella as much as we already did! So Momma told her that she was going to be part of our family furever and ever.


Momma doesn't foster regularly anymore because we're kind of full with two full-time dogs, but we thought that Cinderella was worth it. (And sometimes we take in another dog if it's just for a little while.) Cinderella is a wonderful sissy. She's fun to play with, and she takes some of Momma's attention with the flashy beast, which is just fine by me! She's always happy, and she has the sweetest nature of any dog you'll ever meet.


And we're all living happily ever after!

It's a pawty!

Wow, folks, does LBR know how to throw a birthday pawty or what?!


The Wasabi puppies turned one year old today, so they had one heck of a birthday pawty with all their people! For those who haven't been following us that long, the Wasabis were a litter of pups born in LBR's care after we rescued their pregnant mama from the shelter. Her name was Sushi, and we always give the litter a name to match.

So here's (left to right) Tuna Roll, Sake, and Maki, at about age 5 days.


Here they are enjoying their pawty! We have Trinity (Tuna Roll), Augustus/Gus (Maki), and Bonsai (Sake). I think they had a pretty good time!


Happy birthday, Wasabis! And, uh, I'm sure my invitation just got lost in the mail, right?

I would also like to pause a moment to say a very sad, fond farewell to LBR's Charlie Brown. He had an autoimmune reaction during his heartworm treatment, where his body was attacking his own red blood cells. It's a rare reaction, but we've lost two LBR dogs in the last two years to this reaction. Charlie fought very hard, but finally his foster mom had to make the decision to help him to the Rainbow Bridge. He's running free from pain and worry now. Godspeed, Charlie! You were very loved.
