A special announcement
The power of the paw helped him through scary surgery and clean margins. Now Atom Ant would like to announce that he got his Christmas wish -- his very own furever family! Atom, his new mom, and his new sister Brea got to spend Christmas together, and they're hoping for many more happy Christmases. Hooray for Atom!

Hmm... not exactly.
Umm... still getting there....
There we go! Good boy, Aldi! I know Santa will bring a wonderful forever home for a good boy like you!

The pups here at LBR are getting our lists together and writing to the Big Guy to let him know what we want for Christmas. A few of our dogs got their wishes granted early -- a whopping five LBR foster dogs found their forever homes this weekend! Here's hoping a whole bunch more find their new families by Christmas. We want to give Santa a helping paw!
And remember -- pets are for life, not just for Christmas!

The Rainbow Bridge is getting full.
It hasn't been a good week. :( We lost another LBR baby to the Bridge yesterday. This sweet little boy, Denali, was battling illness the whole time we had him. But in between, he was the cutest, spunkiest little guy you've ever seen! He stole all our hearts, and we will miss him very much.
Denali died of distemper, a horrible disease that has no cure but can be completely prevented by one inexpensive vaccine! Please vaccinate your pets. We guard your houses, make you laugh, and snuggle with you when you need a friend. But we depend on you to keep us healthy. Please don't make anyone else suffer like Denali did.
Godspeed, little guy. You will be very missed.

Another sad farewell
This is HalfTyme. She was born into LBR's care after we rescued her momma from a shelter, and she was adopted by one of our wonderful volunteers. This week, she somehow got out of her house. Half of LBR went out looking for her, but sadly, we weren't able to find her before she was hit by a car. She is missed very much by her mommy, her brother Shadeaux, and her entire extended LBR family. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge, HT!

Godspeed, Shera
Sadly, Shera passed away today, curled up on a soft bed with her best bud by her side. I guess that's a pretty good way to go, when it's time. We at LBR just loved Shera to bits, and my mom just loved playing with her at pet fairs. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge, Princess of Power! You had so many people love you.

"An earlier post made me start thinking about the true meaning of this holiday season. So, I decided to make some Christmas magic of my own and played Santa's elf today when I picked up my foster from Midway and it felt FANTASTIC!
While I was waiting for my foster to be brought out from the back, a young (maybe mid twenties at most) guy was trying to hold back tears for his little dog that had been at Midway for days ~ she'd quit eating on Thanksgiving and had been sick ever since. He was trying to figure out how to pay for treatment (which he clearly couldn't afford) and asked the girl up front if he could make weekly payments. His total to date was $147 without boarding. When they went to check with Doc about payments, I asked the guy how his dog was doing. He went right into a treatment room and walked out like a proud daddy with some sort of hairy mixed Heinz 57 and then introduced me to Sapphire. I couldn't help the tears in my eyes. We have been right where this poor guy is. Sick dog, no money, little skin kids with holidays coming up. Front office person came back and told him he'd need to put half down and could then pay out the rest. He looked so defeated and I could tell he was having to make a very difficult decision.
So....I told him Merry Christmas and paid enough of the bill that he could keep the dog at Dr. C's until Sapphire finished treatment. I wish ya'll could have seen the look on his face. The poor man was speechless and almost started crying (he was doing the "manly thing" a guy like him would do and was holding the tears back) but then said very quietly, "God Bless you, lady" as I walked out with my foster.
The reason I'm telling this story is that I'm hopeful that there are more elves out there ready to do some magic, especially on the BIN page. I can't stand the thought of so many babies in a shelter or worse at this time of year."
See why I love LBR volunteers? They're the most awesome anywhere! So please take our elf's challenge and create some holiday miracles of your own! And if you're in the DFW area, please consider making that miracle taking one of our Boxers in Need. There are a lot of dogs that need a foster home really badly -- ones that are about to die in a shelter or who are waiting outside in the cold. Please be a holiday angel today!

Dog of the Day -- Adopted!!

Smell mail!
Apparently my friend Alyce Ann put on a little fashion show. It's hard to find fashions that fit real-sized dogs like boxers, but Alyce says this fits and will keep her toasty warm this winter!
This is my buddy Ozzy, making his pet fair debut! He's an older gentleman, but he has lots of play left in him.
This pretty lady is Miss Celestial, also making her pet fair debut! Why is she so tired?
You'd be pretty tired too if you'd just finished raising a whole litter of puppies! (Hey, so this is why Mom had puppy-scent ALL over her. I'm jealous.) This is Taurus. He and his brothers Leo and Scorpio are on the look-out for their furever home. Their sister Gemini got adopted last week, and I bet the boys won't be far behind!
It's tough being loved all the time. Take it from someone who knows. Taurus eventually decided he'd had enough of being oohed and aahed over by everyone and slept away the rest of pet fair.
I can't wait for the next pet fair to see what cool scents Mom brings me!

Dog of the Day
Shiro is a really awesome LBR dog looking for his forever home! Here's what his foster mom has to say about him:
"Shiro (Japanese for white) has really come out of his shell. He arrived so skinny and scared but now has a very happy tail and wiggles when anyone arrives.
Shiro’s very gentle, submissive, and sweet. He really works to please. He is knows the doggie door and is housetrained unless it rains. He’s great with all dogs but the neighborhood cat looked pretty tasty so he’s not likely a friend. He is learning not to jump on us but messes up when he’s excited. He loves everyone, especially kids. He never licks or kisses but is a real cuddle-bug and won’t leave my side.
He is so cute and such a love, I fell in love instantly. I know you will too.
He is healthy and ready for his new family; please let us know if you would like to meet him."
You can meet Shiro today at our Pet Fair! We'll be at the Garland Petco on Firewheel Parkway from 11-3. (Well, okay, I won't, but my mom will be there, and so will lots of great LBR dogs!)

Dog of the Day
Hi! My name is Dixon and I am looking for my forever home. After raising me from the time I was 16 hours old my Mommy had to give me up because she fell on hard times and could not afford me.
She trained me well - I sit, stay, heal, will "leave it", come when called, like my crate, can give my paw and do high fives! I love being around people and really only want to be where my loved ones are.
My Foster Mommy says that I am so handsome and sweet but would probably be better in a home where I am the only dog. I like having all the attention! But I am fine with cats as I was raised with them! I also love my 2 year old skin sister.
My back legs have some arthritis in them so I need someone who won't want me to be too active and who will be gentle with me.
I am so happy to be with my foster family but I really want a home where I can stay forever! Please come meet me and take me home.

Very happy Atom Ant update!
Not sure if you heard
'Cause we just got the word
The tumor was completely excised!
I've a clean bill of health
That is better than wealth
And no news could come more highly prized
Like I told you before
I am ready for more
I still have so damn much to do
It's not my last dance
I still get my chance
I am now ready to write chapter two.
Love and kisses!
Atom Ant

Dog of the Day
Alyce Ann is a wonderful, lovable girl looking for her furever home! Here's what her foster mom says about her:
"Alyce is a sweet, happy, goofy girl, looking for a loving forever home to keep entertained with her comical, expressive, snorts, chortles, snores & barks that communicate exactly what’s going on in that big pretty head of hers. She IS large for a Boxer. . . .even taller than my big slim 68 lb boxer girl (Maggie Mae) and her head is bigger than Maggie’s too. She is potty trained, crate trained, know how to “sit”, “shake”, catch a treat in her mouth and, even lay “down” (when tempted by a tasty treat).
Alyce is always thrilled to see me when I get home. When I open the door she dances, prances, snorts and huffs around in her crate. . . . then settles down to grab a little dinner while the little dogs go potty. . . . after which she can take her turn and run around playing with Maggie Mae. She runs around in short bursts then, when I go outside with them, circles back around to come hang out and get some snuggles. She loves hanging out with Maggie and I because, in her former life, she was crated 24x7 with only potty time outside.
Alyce was an owner surrender, raised in a home with pre-teen children. She’s been good with any non-dominant large dogs to which I’ve introduced her but, is dead set that little dogs and cats are evil creatures she must get before they can get her. ;-) "
Are you Alyce Ann's perfect family? Go to Legacy Boxer Rescue today!

Happy Howloween!
We have to start, of course, with part of the pack of LBR's pack leader! This is our president Sharon's dog Ginger. She makes a very scary squirrel!
Next is Zoey, practicing her best bzzzzz.
I'm seeing double! No, wait, it's another squirrel, this one named Rebel.

Atom Ant's Update
Yesterday was rough
But I was tough
Today will be oh so much better
The tumor is gone
My life will go on
I'm happy to write you this letter
The Vet was real nice
And gave good advice
I should rest now and just take it easy
Soon we should know
What the lab report shows
Clean margins would certainly please me
In the mean time I wait
To find out my fate
I have been very fortunate so far
Things could have been worse
And a much sadder verse
Had it not been for the rescuers of LBR
You all were so kind
To keep me in mind
To you all I would like to say thank you
Especially you Maggie Mae
Your furfriends made my day
I don't know how I will ever repay you
Sloppy kisses,
Atom
PS. Do you think this bubble makes my butt look big?

I ain't skeered...
Good luck!! -- UPDATE!
Atom said to tell Maggie Mae and all of her furiends THANK YOU for the good wishes. He's not scared now, since he knows he has so much Power of the Paw behind him!

Say hello to...
Truffles is an extremely sweet girl who would love a family of her own to spoil her. Affectionately called "Princess" in her foster home, she would prefer to be an only pet, though would probably do fine with a submissive companion. She has a high prey drive, so will need a home with no cats or small dogs.
Truffles is deaf but not dumb. She knows how to shake hands and is working on other commands, as well as house training. In true Princess form, she doesn't like to get her feet wet in the grass, so may need to be taken potty on a leash until she settles into a routine.
She is a typical wiggly Boxer girl who loves to be pet and give kisses. She would do well with kids who understand the challenges and rewards of a deaf dog, and a family who is willing to work with her on training and hand commands.
Truffles is a very active girl, so she wants a family that will walk and play with her a whole lot or an active fur-brother to play with.

Go Rangers!!
This is Blitz. I like her tutu, but don't let it fool you! She can knock you down something serious if you insult her Rangers.
This handsome guy is my buddy Slate. We got to ride to the game together. He had a really awesome jersey, didn't he? (And everybody's got our tongues sticking waaaaay out because it was really hot!)
This is me with my girlfriend Noel. She has a tutu too, but hers is even prettier than Blitz's. She's always dressed so nice.
Boy, some guys get all the attention! This is Handsome Man, aka Mulligan, and his sister Maggie Mae. The Rangers bat girls decided they really liked Mulligan and wanted their picture taken with him. Whatevs.
