Coco's New Beginning!

Boy, some days just make me so super-duper awesomely proud to be a Boxer Ambassador for Legacy Boxer Rescue! Today is one of them. I want everyone to meet the newest member of the LBR family, Coco.

 "I'm itchy, scared, and alone. Will anyone help me?"

Miss Coco was at a local shelter here in Dallas/Ft.Worth. One of our volunteers saw her on Friday when she went to look at three other boxers. The shelters are all super-packed right now, and LBR has been having a lot of trouble finding foster homes because we've had several dogs returned lately. (Grrr.) Our volunteer, Auntie Maralyn, saw Miss Coco and just immediately knew that she needed help. She was very pitiful and covered in fleas. Her coat was sticky with all the flea poop! She cringed the whole time Auntie Maralyn was looking at her, and kept her tail tucked between her legs.

Auntie Maralyn was SO relieved when she got the all-clear to take Coco as her very own foster dog. She sent her husband to the shelter right away to pick Coco up and rushed to the store to buy some supplies, like flea shampoo and a cozy new blankie. As soon as Coco got home, she got a biiiiig bath. Usually I hate baths, but I bet for Coco it felt SO good to get all those awful fleas off her! Auntie Maralyn spent nearly 45 minutes just washing her, and Coco stood patiently the whole time, tail tucked between her legs.

But you know what? It turns out there was a beauty under all that flea poop! When she was rinseed off, she had the most gawjuss brindle fur and bright white flash. After a few hours, she was even willing to give a teeny little nubbin wag to say thank you to Auntie Maralyn.
  

 "Oh wow, I feel so much better now!"

Isn't she just so purty?! She met the other dogs at her foster home, and she was so nice to all of them. She got to watch TV on her new blankie with the family, then spent a cozy night all curled up in her crate. In the morning she was all wiggles and wags to see her foster parents again. She's been following Auntie Maralyn around ever since, and I can tell they're going to be bestest buddies.

No secret why I'm proud to be LBR's Boxer Ambassador! When these pawsome humans help doggies like Miss Coco and help show them what life is supposed to be like again, what's not to love?!

 "Ahhh, this is the life. My happily ever after is just beginning!"

Stand by pit bulls!

Today is my buddy Corbin's third birthday! And as his birthday pressie, he wants something very simple: humans to stop discriminating against his breed. See, Corbin is a pit bull. Some people would think just because of his breed that he's a mean, scary, vicious dog. But he's very sweet and friendly, and I'm proud to call him my furiend! So today, Blogville's posts are dedicated to pit bull awareness, in hopes that one day pit bulls won't be judged just by their breed.

Momma and I always say that you have to learn all about something before you can understand it. That just makes sense, right? So when people tell you that pit bulls are bad and scary, what can you tell them?

• Pit bulls scored an average of 82.6% on the American Temperament Test. (That's higher than Golden Retrievers and Collies!) The average score for all 121 breeds tested is 77%.
• Pit bulls are very intelligent and loyal. They love to please their owners, which is why they end up in fighting rings. :( But they're also top choices for all kinds of service dogs, including therapy dogs, law enforcement, bomb sniffers, search & rescue, and the military!
• Pit bulls used to be called the "nanny's dog" because they were so famously good with kids.
• Pit bulls were recruiting dogs during World Wars I and II! They were used on recruiting and propaganda posters.
• Sgt. Stubby was a pit bull war hero in World War I. He saved his entire squadron by warning them of a poison gas attack and even captured a German spy!

Wow, pretty amazing, huh? I feel proud to have pit bull furiends!

Dog attacks are really dangerous and scary, and I don't blame anyone for being afraid of an aggressive dog. I've had some pretty scary moments myself with unleashed dogs! But pit bulls aren't "genetically predisposed" to attacking humans or anything stupid like that. They're dogs. Some dogs are bad, and some dogs are abused and neglected and trained to be aggressive. That's their humans' fault, and it makes me want to bite to think about it.

Humans are really strange sometimes. They pick a breed and decide it's the scariest thing ever. But then after a while, they realize that breed isn't so bad after all. Then instead of realizing that maybe it's just individual dogs that are scary, they move on to another breed! It used to be Dobermans, then Rottweilers, then German Shepherds. Now it's Pit Bulls. But tomorrow it could be Boxers, or Labradors, or any of us. When you let ignorance stand, we all lose.

Stand by pit bulls! We're all man's best friend!

What happened to a day of rest?

I thought you were supposed to rest on Sundays, but Cinderella and I have been hard at work this morning. We had to snoopervise Momma fixing up our back patio!

We got a new rug and cushions for the rocking chair, because the old ones were faded and torn. We also got some new plants. I hope Momma doesn't kill these, BOL!

Saturday Snuggles

I've decided to start a new Legacy Chronicles tradition. Since I love spending weekends curled up with my momma sleeping late, I decided that I'm going to devote Saturdays to those wonderful cozy, snuggly pics that boxers do so well.

For my first Saturday Snuggles, how else could I start out but with our pawsome Wal-Mart box puppies, all snuggly and happy at their furever homes?

Friday Dog of the Day: Denmark

Hey pups, it's Casey again, bringing you more news from the pawsome folks at Legacy Boxer Rescue! I've decided to start devoting Fridays to my "Dog of the Day" spot, so I can tell you all about LBR dogs who are waiting on their furever homes.

Today is a really special dog. I want all of you to say hello to DENMARK!

"Hi there! Are you my furever home?"

Denmark is a completely PAWSOME dog who's in a sad situation right now. His foster mom is about to have a baby and he wasn't getting along so well with his foster brother, so he needed to find a new foster home. But all of our homes are really full, so right now he's in boarding. He really wants a new foster family, or better yet a furever family all his own. He's been in LBR's care for a long time now, and he deserves a grreat home to hang his leash!

"A little something to keep me busy while I wait."

Denny is that perfect age, 3-5 years old, so he is old enough to know his manners but still young enough to be playful and around for years to come. His foster mom calls him "the total package" -- he has housebreaking and crate-training down pat, and he loves to play in the backyard. He loves kids, too! He gets along with both big and small dogs -- he lives with other boxers and a small dog too -- but he can be a little selective about his doggy friends. He doesn't like cats either. But he'd be super happy to be an only dog and play with you all day long, or see if he and your dog can be friends!

"I just want to play!"

Denmark's been through a whole lot while he's been with LBR. He had ticks and even a spider crawling all over him when he was first rescued, yuck! Then he had to have some leg surgery that I know was NO fun at all for an active guy like Denny. But he's done with all of that stuff now and is healthy, happy, and raring to go! And through it all, he's kept his happy, loving boxer spirit. He SO deserves a home of his own. If you think he might be a fit for you, go check out his bio page on LBR's website.
