Monday Mischief

Hmm. Well, it's Monday, but I haven't seen any signs of mischief around here. Nope, quiet as can be...

These guys? Nah, I'm sure they don't have any mischief in them at all.

My big race!

Yesterday was my big race with Momma. She goes and does lots of races without me, but this time I got to go!! I was soooo excited. I started training so I'd be super strong and fast.

Soon it was race day, and Momma and I were ready to go! The theme of the race was "Peace Love & Run," so we had our tie-dye on.

My furiend, LBR foster Linus, brought his momma to the race too. I heard Momma tell Linus's Momma that we'd probably walk with them for most of the race. What?! No way, I trained too hard for this!!

As soon as they said "ready set go!", I was out of there! I went charging along, and Momma was working hard to keep up with me. I did grreat. Momma kept saying how proud she was of me. We did have to stop a few times to walk, but we ran like 87 miles of it!

We ended up finishing the 5k (3.1 miles) in 39:09. We were fifth place out of ALL the doggies there!! We would've been in third, but we stopped for water breaks. The dogs in front of me weren't short-nosed pups, and Momma was keeping an extra-close eye on me.

We hung out and chatted with folks at the finish line, and Momma shared her banana with me. Yay! I thought that was the best part of races, but Momma said there was something even better. And OMD, she was RIGHT!!

Post-race cheeseburgers!! Yeah, baby, running is TOTALLY my thing.

Thoughts on training your human

As most of you know, training your human is a never-ending task. They'll be going along perfectly fine, then they'll get some odd notion in their head and you have to work on training it out of them. It's hard work, but a well-trained human is essential to your long-term happiness and well-being. A well-trained human, for example, will dispense treats liberally, always serve meals on time, and know exactly where to plant that ear scritching.

I've been training my human for six years, and she's pretty well-behaved if I do say so myself. One thing I learned in the training process that is very hard but essential to your human's success -- you have to let them do things on their own. Yes, I know, it's usually so much easier if you do it yourself. But then they don't learn. Let's take the bed, for example.

When I first started training my human, I told her that a neatly made bed was a necessity every single morning. She grumbled a lot, but she agreed. So every morning, we'd make the bed together. I was flying all over that bed, smoothing out the sheets and making sure they got aired out completely before she put the quilt back on. It was exhausting, folks! And you know what? She still needed my help every day! That's not training.

So finally I took the hard step. I told her, "Momma, you're a big girl now. It's time for you to start making the bed by your own self." She looked at me with those wide, pathetic eyes and said, "But Casey, how will I possibly do it right by myself?" I reassured her that I'd be right there with her, but she had to learn to do it herself. And you know what? She did!

Now every morning, Momma makes the bed all by herself while I sit on the other side and watch her carefully. And if she does a good job, I jump right up in the middle of it and let her scritch me for a while as a reward. (Rewards are very impawtant when training humans.) She gets a wonderful sense of satisfaction out of it, and I get scritches! That's what we call a win-win scenario, folks.

So how about you? Do you have any advice for training your humans?

Tuesday Tug!

I think Osha's starting to feel right at home in her foster home. What do you think?

PeeS: Blogger is acting up and doesn't like letting us get to other blogs to see new posts. So we're trying our best, but that's why we've been really quiet and haven't commented much lately. Hopefully it'll start cooperating soon!

Think Pink!

Hi everybodys, Cinderella here. I told Casey that I HADS to take over the blog today. Do you know why?? It's PINK Day! I'm ALL over that, darlings.

Pink is definitely my signature color. What better for a pretty princess like me than to be pretty in PINK? But did you know that pink has all sorts of other benefits? I looked up color therapy information, and PINK has about 87 million benefits. Here are the major ones:

Pink is said to generate passion, energy, and affection to make one feel energetic. The one who wears it and the one who sees others wearing pink feels energetic, playful, happy, and smiling!

Pink also calms anger and keeps you peaceful! Pink surroundings makes you less aggressive and removes animosity, hatred, and wrath.

Pink is also the color of unconditional love. Those surrounded by pink are more loving, caring, compassionate, and hopeful.

Of course, pink is also a romantic color! Pink can make a couple feel hopeful, pleasant, and peaceful. It generates love and enhances beauty.

Pink is a color that generates positive energy, instilling that warm feeling that comforts and makes everyone around you fee better!

Pink also generates hope. Any depressed person should be surrounded by pink because it generates hope for life!

Yup, pink sure has lots of benefits. But do you know the best one of all? It makes you absolutely beeYOUtiful when you wear it!!

May your PINK day be fabulous!!

A+!

Hey folks! I had my annual checkup at the dogtor yesterday. Momma says it's a shame I can't be more relaxed when we go to the office.

We had a pretty long wait yesterday, which is unusual. But at least I got plenty of time to chat with Fabio, the office kitty. He liked to play "hide" behind the chairs and the plants, but I always found him! BOL!

And the verdict? My dogtor gave me an A+ report card! I'm in pawfect health and don't have a thing wrong with me. PHEW! Momma said she needs ONE dog in pawfect shape after all the problems Cinderella has had lately. I'm always happy to be her pawfect dog when she needs it!

Throwback Thursday

This is the first week Momma had me, five whole years ago! I don't know what that is sitting on my doggy bed. I'm sure I had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Judge Casey on the bench

Judge Casey here. Sometimes I am called upon in my role as Boxer Ambassador to render judgment when LBR dogs are accused of certain behaviors. The defendant today is Gabby, the sweet-looking girl on the right. Hmm. What could she pawsibly be accused of?? Let's hear from the prosecution!

Here is Gabby's Momma's version of events: "Left these two on their honor while we ran errands.  3 steaks and a pork chop thawing in the sink.  Came home to two small pieces of bone and a bloody mess on the carpet.  Needles to say dimner was late, we had to quick thaw more meat.  I forget that Gabby is a jumper and pretty sure she procured the meat out of the sink.  Will be investing in a nanny cam of some sort in the future.  Boxers!"

The prosecution rests. (And that last line sounds an awful lot like racial profiling to me!!) Now let's hear from Gabby in her defense:

"So dere I was, hanging out innocentlys at home while my momma ran errands. I promised her I would be a good girl, so I was curled up in my bed playing with a stuffie. Then all of a sudden I heards a noise in da kitchen, and the next thing I knew, a massive horde of squirrels were running out with 3 steaks and a porkchop hoisted above their little heads. Well, I dropped my stuffie and LEAPED at them, snapping and snarling. "Stop dat! Don't you know dat's dinner for da humans tonight?!" Well, they taunted me and waved those steaks around, and then they started taking BITES out of the steaks just to tease me!! So I jumped at them. It was a fierce battle. I barely made it out alive. I'm going to have nightmares about all those squirrels. <shudder> In the end, all that was left of the steaks and the porkchop were two small pieces of bone, but I took LOTS of squirrel blood in payment!! I had just finished chasing all of them away when Momma came home. I was expecting lots of praise for my vicious battle against the squirrels, but instead she accused ME of eating the steaks!! Can you believes it?!?!"

Wow. Compelling arguments on both sides. The jury is going to consider both cases.... And it looks like the verdict is in:

Poor innocent Gabby! I hereby find that you are owed a steak EVERY night for a week, extra ear scritches, and an abject APOLOGY from your cruel Momma. Thank you for your honorable defense of your home against the menace of the squirrel horde!

National Running Day

Momma told me that today is National Running Day. She thinks it's a pawesome day because she looooves to run. She runs like 87 miles almost every day! Dare I say she's a WONDERful runner?

BOL! Momma runs lots of races, but this month I get to go on one WITH her! I'm so super excited about it. I'm training hard so I can keep up with her the whole time. We're doing a 5k, which must be nearly 87 miles at least. (Momma says 3.1. What does she know?) We started running short stretches of our evening walk to get me ready. I got this!

And remember, whether you're walking or running, you can help your local shelter or rescue! WoofTrax.com has a pawesome app called Take Your Walk for a Dog. You just hit the button on your smarter-than-humans phone when you start walking and then again when you finish. For every mile you walk, they donate to your chosen shelter or rescue! May I suggest Legacy Boxer Rescue in Hurst, TX, of course?

So happy National Running Day, everyone. Be sure to chase your peeps a few extra times around the house in honor of the day.

Another Osha Update!

An update straight from Osha's pawesome foster momma:

"This week has been interesting and very rewarding. Although Osha still isn't finding her stuffed animals all that interesting, she has started to play! We invite her as she still isn't sure if it's "OK" but by jumping and running around her with excitement, she now gladly follows along. Before, she was confused and uneasy. She's now picked up on routine as well. I no longer have to coax her to bed at night or lead her outside with direction. She now asks and has also learned her snack time by reminding me with a walk up stare .. I've never had a "completely" deaf Boxer, so I myself am having to learn her language as well by paying close attention to her as she must do with me and the rest of my fur gang.

They have also been a wonderful teacher to Osha. We have seen pictures of Osha as she is recovering, but I think it's time for her to feel pretty, so we added some flowers. Her beauty is shining through, even though we still have a road ahead of us. I will be taking some action shots for her next update. Bless you all for the support you continue to give. Osha wants to give a special shout out to the Hawkins Elementary School for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers ...... Everyone stay safe and enjoy your summer!! ~Bronwen"

Way to go, Osha!! You look beeYOUtiful in your flowers. It sounds like you'll be ready for a playdate soon!
